Introducing The Membership from Helen Cousins Botanics
The Membership is a creative space for botanical artists who want to grow.
Whether you're just starting out or returning after time away, it’s a place to develop your practice with structure, encouragement, and room to move at your own pace.
And, if you want to take things further, there's also a supported path toward submitting your work for exhibition.
The Membership is home to all of my tutorials, designed to inspire and encourage you to pick up your watercolour brushes and find some time for yourself to be creative.
In addition to tutorials, there is a curated learning pathway for you to follow, to help you stay motivated and progress in your skills as an artist, as well as monthly Q&A sessions and a supportive, welcoming community.
The Membership is for everyone.
Whether you have never picked up a paintbrush, or are a seasoned watercolour pro, there is space for you here to learn, grow and flourish as a watercolour and botanical artist.
It all began when I started sharing my work online
When I began learning about botanical art, I started to share my work on my blog and social media.
Over time, I noticed people reaching out to me for advice and support, and that’s how I naturally found my way into teaching.
Initially, I started teaching small workshops, and this has evolved over the last decade into teaching in-person courses and online.
I noticed that a lot of people felt drawn to watercolour and botanical art, but felt apprehensive about beginning. They feared not being good enough, that they would “never be able to paint like that”.
By the end of the workshop, however, those same students were excited.
I watch their faces light up as I hold up their finished paintings with pride.
They are amazed by what they were able to achieve through following the simple, considered process that I teach.
And I am bringing these exact same principles into The Membership.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve taught botanical art through in-person workshops, my downloadable guides, and online programs, reaching students in 46 countries.
My approach has helped hundreds of people move past hesitation, develop their skills, and fall in love with the process of painting botanicals.
The Membership brings all of that into one place, with the structure, rhythm, and support I’ve seen make the biggest difference.

What members are saying…
Whether they joined to return to painting after a long break, to learn the fundamentals properly, or simply to make space for creativity again, here’s what members have shared about their experience:
“Helen provides guidance and concepts for painting that are not overwhelming.”
“If you are looking for feedback and growth, this is a great way to start botanical art.
Her unique style and her interaction with the members is the best of any of the teachers I have seen. Others provide videos and techniques, but without the feedback, it doesn't allow for growth as much.”
- Anne, USA
“She is endlessly encouraging and works very hard to bring this unique community of artists from all over the World together.”
“I had attended a Class with Helen in the past and enjoyed it so much. Since then I have followed her journey online and finally into The Membership. I decided to join as I really wanted a challenge with careful teaching, and I hope to improve my watercolour technique.”
- Jaine, UK
“This is such a great learning environment!”
“I really wanted to learn to paint botanical art at a good level and that is exactly what you get in this course.
The basics are explained in detail with extensive tutorials on how to stretch your paper, mix any color you want with 6 colors and convert your own photos into a unique composition. It has increased my creativity in a nice way
This is such a great learning environment! Helen gives you a comprehensive answer to every question you have that you can use to move forward. It has become addictively fun to make time for painting.”
- Ilse, Netherlands
“Now I have more confidence, a clearer approach, and I’m addicted.”
“I had been painting regularly with a group of friends for over 10 years, but my progress felt stationary. Now I’m approaching painting with more confidence and a clearer pathway.
The course is logical, systematic, and practical, great for all levels. You can go at your own pace, and Helen is a very supportive and responsive tutor. I’m now addicted to the process and enjoying every step.”
